Comments - Interesting kabuki scene from the play "Keisei Soga Kuruwa Kagami, 1867 at the Ichimura Theater. At left, the magician Orochimaru is disguised as the boatman Tatsu, looking up at his companion with a slightly evil grin. He wears a striking quilted robe with a snake on it, a reference to his practice of snake magic. At right, a geisha, who is actually the folk hero Jiraiya, looks back at him with a sweet smile as she pulls up the black fur collars of her blue kimono decorated with writing. From left, the actors are Ichimura Kakitsu IV and Sawamura Tanosuke III. Nice large expressive figures set against a softly shaded night sky.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 3/8" x 18 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - Good detail. Horizontal centerfold in right panel, vertical fold at side. A few small repairs and creases, slight rubbing.
