Threatening a Sumo Wrestler with a Sword, 1847 - 1852 - Interesting kabuki scene of a commoner threatening a sumo wrestler with a sword. He leans forward at right, holding the blade between his hands as the wrestler reaches for his own weapon. The wrestler kneels on the floor, his red fringed apron visible beneath his print kimono. At left, a beauty reacts with alarm, throwing her hands out in a stopping motion. A large circular container and basket rest on a shelf in a niche behind her, and curtains decorated with rabbits hang in the doorway. Nice expressive figures in a handsomely detailed interior setting.
