Fujiwara no Toshiyuki Ason, Poet No. 18 - Lovely portrait of the beautiful courtesan Akoya, the mistress of Taira no Kagekiyo. The Genji commander Shigetada kidnapped the lovely courtesan Akoya, hoping to force her to reveal Kagekiyo's whereabouts after he escaped following the Battle of Dan-no-ura. She kneels on the floor, hugging herself, a frightened look on her face as a small girl carries in an umbrella. A large woven hat and a sword rest on the ground nearby. The poem by Fujiwara no Toshiyuki Ason reads:
The waves are gathered
On the shore of Sumi Bay,
And in the gathered night,
When in dreams I go to you,
I hide from people's eyes.
