Comments - Interesting scene of kabuki actors on a pilgrimage to Asakusa Yumei-ji Temple for the unveiling of a Buddhist image. The men and women stroll along in the foreground, the beauty at right smiling happily as she gestures with one hand. Her male companions frown at her angrily, one taking a toothpick from his mouth. A signboard at left announces the event. A border of clouds separates the figures from a panoramic view of the shrine, with visitors throughout the grounds dotted with pines and blossoming cherry trees. The left panel shows Nakamura Fukusuke I and Iwai Kumesaburo III. The center panel includes Sawamura Tossho II and Kawarazaki Gonjuro I. The right panel features Onoe Kikugoro IV, Ichikawa Ichizo III, and Ichikawa Kodanji. A fascinating subject, nicely detailed with burnishing on the black kimono and black collars.
