Series; Theatrical Matches for Lanterns with Illustrated Jokes

Sawamura Tanosuke III as Ono no Oshizu, 1867 - Handsome kabuki portrait Sawamura Tanosuke III as the beauty Ono no Oshizu, tilting her head with a coy smile as she holds a finger wrapped in red cloth to her cheek. She wears a straw mat as a coat, and carries a bamboo walking stick. The figure appears on the side of the paper shade of a lantern, with a small flower-shaped inset showing a child grinning wildly. A handsome design in an unusual format. Only the second time we've seen a design from this rare Kunichika series.
