Mitsuke: Sawamura Tanosuke as Otatsu, 1867 - Handsome kabuki portrait of Sawamura Tanosuke as the beauty Otatsu. She looks over her shoulder with a sly smile, staring out of the corners of her eyes. One sleeve of her striped kimono has been pushed down to the waist, revealing a purple and white floral print under robe, tied with a red tie-dyed obi. Her hair is pulled back into a ponytail tied with ribbons, with a longer locks falling over her shoulders at the sides. The scene above shows the ferry on the Tenryu River near Mitsuke, with boats carrying passengers across the water. Nicely detailed with fine line work in the hair and strong wood grain impression in the background.
