Comments - Great scene of the Meiji Emperor arriving safely at Hiroshima Prefecture, which served as the Imperial Headquarters during the Sino-Japanese War. The Emperor commanded the armed forces from Hiroshima, which was an important military city during the Meiji era with a strategic port. Here, he rides on horseback in the center, wearing a uniform and a cap topped with a feather, pausing to look back at the Empress and her ladies-in-waiting, who have arrived in the royal carriage. At left, a military band plays music and fireworks explode in the sky at top center. The first time we've seen this interesting design.
