Series; The New Biography of Toyotomi Hideyoshi (Shinsen Taikoki)
Bugaku Dance at the Juraku Pavilion - Fantastic scene of a group of noblemen watching a performance of a bugaku dance at Hideyoshi's Juraku palace in Kyoto. The dancer wears a fearsome blue mask with large fangs and bushy eyebrows and hair. He wears an exotic costume with a flowing golden robe trailing on the ground around him. The noblemen sit quietly below the edge of a verandah, the daimyo at right sitting on a fur skin. Cherry trees blossom in the background and a pine tree frames the image at lower right. A striking design with rich jewel-tone color and wonderful detail.
