Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of two otokodate or street knights who were ostensibly chivalrous commoners but were actually a gang of thieves. They appear lounging on benches outside a shop or restaurant, wearing matching kimono bordered with a variety of motifs including lobsters, feathered shuttlecocks, stylized flowers, and diamonds. At left, Karigane Bunshichi grimaces angrily as he stares over his shoulder, a tobacco set in one hand and a pipe in the other. At right, the young Kaminari Shokuro smiles happily, seemingly unconcerned by his companion's anger. From left, the actors are Iwai Kumesaburo III and Ichikawa Ebizo V. A great design with a nicely detailed setting.
