Ichikawa Ebizo V as Banzui Chobei and Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as Shirai Gonpachi, 1858

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene from the tale of the famous otokodate Banzui Chobei and Shirai Gonpachi, who is wanted for the murder of his uncle. After the pair meet at Suzu-ga-Mori and Gonpachi fights off a gang trying to capture him for the reward, Chobei hands him a letter from a messenger that has fallen on the ground. Gonpachi pores over the message with an angry frown as he realizes it is a warrant for his arrest. Chobei holds a lantern up over him, a stern expression on his face and a plaid robe draped over his shoulder. From left, the actors are Kawarazaki Gonjuro I and Ichikawa Ebizo V. Nice expressive figures.
