Sanada Yukimura, 1894 - Intriguing diptych showing famous Sengoku era warrior Sanada Yukimura sitting on a mat, an oil lamp burning before him. A stack of ink paintings on paper sits beside him, along with a small wooden tub holding paste and a brush. At left, what appears to be a cannon covered with sheets of calligraphy rests on a wooden base. In the garden outside, a crying young woman hides her face in her kimono sleeve as a young man offers her a small parcel wrapped in cloth. Beautifully drawn expressive figures, with a handsome border featuring stylized leaping carp, which symbolize strength, courage, and the ability to overcome obstacles, a reference to the character of the highly regarded Yukimura.
