Eastern Brocades: New Year's Day, 1889

Comments - Handsome scene several different daimyo's processions converging a bridge at lower left on New Year's Day. In the center, a nobleman rides in a palanquin as his retainers start off across an arched wooden bridge. Two other groups flank him on either side, arriving from the opposite direction, while still other processions make their way along the streets at upper left and upper right. The red buildings of a temple are nestled under the tall pines atop a hill at center, with two torii gates leading to the grounds. An interesting subject, nicely detailed.

Artist - Shogetsu (active circa 1880 - 1890)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 1/2"

Condition - This print with good color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Slight curling, a few marks. Please see photos for details.
