Yoshiwara-suzume - Lovely Utamaro portrait of a dancer. Yoshiwara-suzume means "Sparrows of the Yoshiwara," a type of epic song performed as a dance drama. The beauty wears a sleeveless coat typical of a bird seller with a pattern of birds in flight, and a sheer silk head covering in soft green. Her folding fan features chrysanthemums and gold mica clouds. A charming small format reprint, detailing with a shimmering mica background.
