Night View of a Garden

Comments - Lovely triptych of beauties in a garden at night. A courtesan stands on the porch of a house at right, enjoying a view of the full moon beyond the pine trees at left, a pipe in hand. She wears a lavender kimono shaded to blue and bordered with leaves and blossoms with a red tie-dyed collar, tied with a pink sash. A young girl kneels at her side holding a tobacco set. In the center, a woman carries a lamp which casts a shaft of warm light up into the night sky, one end of her brocade obi looped over her arm. In the distance, an angled bridge leads over a pond, with stone lanterns at the water's edge and tall pine trees framing the view. Interestingly, the left panel is virtually identical to a similar Edo era subject jointly designed by Toyokuni III and Hiroshige. A lovely night scene, attractively colored and detailed with fine bokashi shading.
