Snowdrop of the Kiso Mountains: Bando Hikosaburo V as Miyamoto Musashi, 1862 - Great kabuki portrait of Bando Hikosaburo V as the famous samurai Miyamoto Musashi, training in martial arts with an elderly man. Musashi grips his sword with both hands, turning his head away as his opponent thrusts a wooden pot lid at him. He wears a black kimono with a burnished geometric pattern over a light blue under robe and armor trimmed with fur at the cuffs, his sleeves tied back with a sash. The title block at upper left is framed by blossoming snowdrops. A bold design with handsome wood grain impression on the background.
