Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Fukuoka Mitsugi and Iwai Kumesaburo III as Aburaya Okon, 1852

Comments - Handsome scene from the kabuki play "Ise Ondo Koi no Netaba," a tale about a valuable but cursed sword that forces its possessor to kill when unsheathed. Fukuoka Mitsugi has been charged with returning the sword to the Awa House, but must first obtain a certificate of authenticity for it. Here, the courtesan Okon of the Aburaya smiles as she looks up at Mitsugi, her sweetheart. Mitsugi looks down with a worried frown, his brows slightly furrowed. He wears a black kimono with a subtle burnished pattern of flowers and vines. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Danjuro VIII and Iwai Kumesaburo III. A Nice large, well-detailed figures and soft shading in the background.

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 19 3/8" + margins as shown
