Enjoying the Evening Cool, 1854

Comments - Terrific image of three kabuki actors offstage enjoying the cool evening air while strolling. The beauty in the center smiles happily as she looks at her companion, a fan decorated with irises in her hand. She wears a blue kimono with a charming design of turtles and streams. The men wear blue and white summer kimono, the fellow at left holding a pipe and a black robe under his arm. The folding fan of the man at right features a mountain landscape. Behind them, the street is crowded with figures in silhouette, many carrying glowing red paper lanterns, the rooftops of the city in the distance. A handsome design with fine bokashi shading. The first time we've seen this Toyokuni III triptych.
