Matron Subduing a Samurai with a Sword by Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Matron Subduing a Samurai with a Sword

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of a matron subduing a samurai attacking her, pushing down the back of his neck as she holds with wrist of his sword arm. She looks up over her shoulder with a suspicious frown, seeming unconcerned about the violence taking place. She wears a pink kimono over a red under robe, the white collars and trim detailed with a faintly embossed pattern, her hair simply arranged with a large loop with a single wooden ornament. The background is softly shaded from green to light blue, adding interesting. The title block takes the form of a book. A handsome design with an expressive figure.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 3/8" x 8 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Backed with paper. A few spots. Please see photos for details.
