Sawamura Tossho II as Horie Wankyu and Onoe Kakunosuke I as a Mask Seller, 1862 - Interesting kabuki double portrait of Sawamura Tossho II as Horie Wankyu and Onoe Kakunosuke I as a mask seller. Wankyu looks ahead with an angry frown, his brows furrowed as he holds a pole against his shoulder. He wears an unusual floppy cloth hat. At left, the mask seller carries a trunk on his back with his wares, his green robe decorated with colorful masks. Maple leaves frame the title panel at upper right. Nice expressive figures.
