Comments - Interesting portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro as Kasahara Zuioken in a play about the samurai Miyamoto Musashi. The young warrior received training in martial arts from Kasahara Zuioken at Mt. Kiso. Here, the elderly master uses a wooden pot lid to deflect the blows of his student, clouds of smoke drifting up from the pines sprigs on the fire below. Nicely detailed with fine embossing on the elderly man's white hair and beard.
