The Battle of Narumi, in the Former Taiheiki of the Kohei Era, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Action-packed depiction of the Battle of Narumi. In the center, the great Minamoto warrior Hachimantaro Yoshiie fires an arrow as he gallops along on his black horse, trampling several enemies under foot. He wears a striking horned helmet topped with a dragon figurine, a tiger skin serving as his saddle blanket. At right, the arrow strikes his victim, sending him reeling backwards. Fighting continues all around, with samurai on foot battling with swords and polearms. A lively scene with wonderful detail. The first time we've seen this samurai subject.
