Courtesan in a Lion Kimono

Comments - Lovely portrait of an elegantly dress courtesan strolling through the Yoshiwara at night. She wears a striking kimono patterned with a lion and peonies, trimmed with floral borders over a red tie-dyed under robe, the three "teeth" of her geta clogs identifying her as an oiran or high ranking courtesan. Behind her, a low bamboo fence encloses yellow yamabuki or mountain roses and blossoming cherry trees. An attractive design, nicely detailed with light embossing on the white collar and trim.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 1/8"

Condition - This print with nice color and detail as shown. Wrinkling throughout. Please see photos for details.
