Genroku Makeup for the Protagonist of Shibaraku Worn by Saigyu - Great shin-hanga kabuki portrait of the samurai hero in the play "Shibaraku," grimacing angrily as he looks up, his eyes bulging. He grips his sword upright, and long locks of hair fly wildly at either side of his face, animating the scene. Beautifully detailed with a shimmering mica background. Tadamasa Ueno specialized in kabuki portraits and did a number of series based on "The Eighteen Kabuki Plays" made famous by the Ichikawa Danjuro line of actors, which featured bold or brash characters in the "aragato" style.
