Series; The New Biography of Toyotomi Hideyoshi (Shinsen Taikoki)

A Quiet Retreat at Mount Kurikoma, 1883 - Terrific scene of the Kinoshita Hideyoshi (the young Toyotomi Hideyoshi) paying a visit disguised as a ronin to the powerful lord Takenaka Shigeharu at his retreat on Mt. Kurikoma. Shigeharu was a master strategist and Hideyoshi wanted him to join Oda Nobunaga's forces, but Shigeharu disliked Nobunaga intensely. Through careful persuasion, Hideyoshi was able to obtain the warrior's services, and he advised Nobunaga well for many years. Here, Hideyoshi earnestly entreats Shigeharu to reconsider his position as the samurai scowls at him from inside his mountaintop retreat. Shigeharu wears a brown dragonfly print vest over a black kimono beautifully detailed with a burnished pattern. Hideyoshi's deep blue green robe is also burnished. Nice expressive figures in an atmospheric setting.
