Original Yoshikata (active circa 1841 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Takuma Genbanojo Morimasu in Battle

Comments - Great depiction of the warrior Takuma Genbanojo Morimasu (the real-life Sakuma Morimasa) in the midst of battle. In the center, he wields a club with both hands above his head from astride a brown horse, trampling over an enemy as he gallops ahead. A personal standard topped with a demon's head waves above his back. At left, a samurai on a gray horse draws back his spear to counter the attack. At upper right, a warrior peers around the trunk of a pine tree for a surprise attack on the enemy before him. A lively scene filled with action, in a rugged mountainous setting.

Artist - Yoshikata (active circa 1841 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 29" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with nice detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. A few wormholes, repaired. A few creases, slight curling. Please see photos for details.
