Comments - Intriguing triptych depicting a Heian era noblewoman flanked by two contemporary beauties. She wears layers of elegant robes over hakama pants, the fabric trailing gracefully on the floor behind her. She holds a poem slip on a folding fan, smiling as she looks back, her long hair falling over her shoulder. The beauty at left is performing a tea ceremony, carefully mixing tea in a tea bowl with a whisk. A dipper rests across a container of water heating on a brazier, with a tea caddy and other implements nearby. At right, a kneeling beauty smiles back at the noblewoman, holding a black lacquer box tied with a green tasseled cord. The background is patterned with delicately embossed Genji symbols, and features a standing screen in the center and two beautiful floral arrangements. A lovely design with wonderful color and detail in the fabrics, and burnishing on the black lacquer trays, the frame of the screen, and the black lacquer box.
