Summer Festival Lanterns

Teruhide Kato - After a successful career as a major contemporary kimono designer, Teruhide Kato began painting and creating woodblock prints in the mid-1980s, using his beloved hometown of Kyoto as his subject matter. Rich with architectural and natural beauty, Kato’s striking images capture the quiet magic of this beautiful city. Kato's woodblocks are beautifully hand printed on high quality paper in Kyoto.

In 1991, Kato made his international woodblock print debut in New York and the book, "Kyoto Romance," was released in conjunction with his solo show there. Kato’s artistic style is unique and, like his kimono designs, his woodblock prints balance traditional Japanese imagery with a modern Japanese design aesthetic. These are lovely contemporary designs and make beautiful framed displays.
