Comments - Wonderful triptych of the Meiji Imperial court attending the opening ceremony of the Union Horse Racing Club's racetrack around Shinobazu Pond in Ueno Park. A festive atmosphere prevails with strings of colorful lanterns and small toys descending from fireworks exploding in the sky. The Imperial box is filled with beauties dressed in fine kimono, the Emperor standing in uniform. Nicely detailed with burnishing in the black uniforms and fine bokashi shading in the water and sky. A lively scene with vibrant color and a dramatic panoramic view of the race track. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14” x 29” + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. A few small holes, repaired. Some soiling and toning. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
