Comments - Dramatic scene from the kabuki play about the Taira warrior Akushichibyoe Kagekiyo, who appears in the center gripping a sword that was concealed within the handle of a shamisen. He scowls angrily, his brows furrowed, wearing a yellow and white vest patterned with kanji and lined in read over a purple kimono and armor trimmed with fur at the cuff. His hair sticks up wildly atop his head, with longer locks falling over his back. At bottom center, a young girl reacts with alarm, throwing her hands out, while the matron at right leans forward with a pleading expression. Behind her, Kagekiyo's enemy Minamoto no Yoritomo watches with a frown, his green vest decorated with paulownia, the symbol of the Minamoto clan. Nice expressive figures set off by a deep red background.
