Portraits of the Twenty-four Generals of Kai Province, 1843 - 1847 - Terrific group portrait of Takeda Shingen's twenty-four trusted generals. The daimyo of Kai Province, Shingen famously fought five battles against Uesugi Kenshin of Echigo Province on the plain of Kawanakajima in the 16th century. Shingen appears at top center, sitting on a folding stool and holding a fan with the phases of the moon on it. His retainers wear full armor and carry an array of weapons, including an enormous axe decorated with flames at right, and a huge hand cannon at lower left. Nice expressive figures with wonderful detail in the armors and weapons.
