Hunting with a Falcon in the Snow, 1883

Series; The New Biography of Toyotomi Hideyoshi (Shinsen Taikoki)

Hunting with a Falcon in the Snow, 1883 - Terrific scene of samurai hunting with a falcon in winter At left, a falcon swoops after a heron, as a hunter runs after it. He rushes along a snowy path bordering a narrow waterfall, waving his hands as his dog leaps and barks at the birds. At right, Kuroda Nagamasa sits astride his horse, the retainer Chosokabe Motochika waiting next to him in the snow wearing a blue vest. The travel quarters of the kanpaku, a councilor of the emperor, can be seen in the distance, with banners and standards fluttering above the fencing. An intriguing subject with a wonderfully detailed natural setting.
