Prints of Martial Artists and Vengeance - Interesting design from a chuban format series depicting individuals who excelled in the martial arts or achieved vengeance. Subjects include the sisters Miyagino and Shinobu, who trained in the martial arts so they could challenge their father's murderer, the famous Soga Brothers, the loyal maid Ohatsu, who avenged her mistress's death, and Oboshi Yuranosuke, the leader of the 47 ronin. These handsome images feature expressive figures in nicely detailed settings. Printed and published by Hasegawa in 1897, we have not been able to identify the artist for the series. A handsome group.
