New Play at the Meijiza in the Third Month, 1900

Comments - Great scene from a play at the Meijiza or Meiji Theater of a man in an exotic costume holding a mask of a snarling demon topped with a dragon. He glares angrily at the beauty at left, who leans forward with her hands gripping a sword at her side, her sleeves tied back with a white sash. At right, a man holds out a gun in one hand as he watches the fellow in the center. At left, an ornately decorated drum surrounded by flames with wish-fulfilling jewels at the top rests on a black lacquer stand. An intriguing design, nicely detailed.

Artist - Kunisada III (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 27 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with nice color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight paper remnants on reverse from previous backing. Slight rubbing at edges, light staining. Please see photos for details.
