The Sumo Wrestler Umegatani Totaro, 1887 - Terrific portrait of the famous sumo wrestler Umegatani Totaro performing the entering the ring ceremony before a match. He stands with his feet spread firmly apart, one arm held straight out at his side and the other bent sharply with fingers pointing down. He wears a purple ceremonial apron patterned with a white crest of interlocking octagons and trimmed with yellow fringe. His belt indicates that he is of the highest rank of wrestlers. Two fellow wrestlers crouched behind him, staring ahead solemnly. A handsome Yoshitoshi design and a great choice for a fan of this ancient sport.
