Iwai Kumesaburo III as Murasaki Shikibu, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Charming image depicting Iwai Kumesaburo III as the famous Heian era poet and author of the "Tale of Genji," Murasaki Shikibu. She kneels at lower left holding a fan behind her head, smiling as she looks up at her companion. She wears layers of kimono and her long hair falls loosely over her shoulder. Interestingly, the beauty at right is dressed in the contemporary fashion of the time, wearing a long-sleeved kimono patterned with irises. A band of wide diagonal tie-dyed stripes runs across the top. An attractive design.

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 3/4"
