Comments - Handsome scene from Act 9 of the kabuki play about the 47 ronin," Kanadehon Chushingura," featuring Bando Hikosaburo V as Tonase, the wife of Honzo, and Sawamura Tossho II as her daughter, Konami. The pair have traveled to Yuranosuke's country retreat in Yamashima for the wedding of Konami and Rikiya, Yuranosuke's son. Here, they stand outside in the snow after Yuranosuke's wife has rejected the match, believing that Honzo had contributed to the death of Lord Hangan. Konami looks up with a worried expression, holding her sleeve to her chin, the other hand pulling on the hood over her head. Tonase looks suspiciously out of the corners of her eyes, a grim frown on her face. She shelters her daughter with an umbrella as snow falls heavily through the evening sky. Nice large expressive figures, detailed with embossing on the white kimono collars and a white on white pattern on Konami's kimono.
