Comments - Handsome half-length kabuki portrait of Kawarazaki Gonjuro as Murasaki Saemon (?), sheltering a paper lantern beneath his sleeve as he looks up with an angry frown. He wears a blue violet kimono patterned with gourds on white rectangles, tied with a yellow plaid obi, his hair pulled back into a slender topknot. A bold design, nicely detailed with soft shading on the night sky.
