Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Akamatsu Jutamaru, 1852

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Kodanji IV as the Buddhist monk Akamatsu Jutamaru, looking up with a distraught expression. He holds a staff topped with a ringed finial called a shakujo, and has a trunk on his back containing a statue of a deity. He stands with his feet firmly apart, gripping the staff with both hands. A pine trees frames the night sky above grasses and shrubs. A nice expressive figure.
