Series; Secret Meetings by Moonlight

Andon Lamplight, circa 1836 - 1838 - Lovely image of a beauty smiling as she leans over to tend an andon, a lamp with a paper shade over a frame. A shaft of light illuminates her face and upper torso, the rest of the room in darkness. She wears several layers of kimono, her outer robe slipping from her shoulders, and she holds a roll of tissues. An intricately decorated folding screen provides privacy for her bed, and a black lacquer tray on the floor holds a kettle and two cups. A beautiful design with wonderful handling of the effects of light and soft bokashi shading.
