Comments - Terrific scene from the famous Tale of Genji showing the young Prince Genji enjoying an evening of entertainment at a palace. He sits on a cushion at left, leaning against a lacquer armrest as an attendant pours sake into his cup. Two shirabyoshi dancers perform on the stage before him, accompanied by several musicians playing hand drum, flute, and shamisen. Wonderful detail in the interior setting and elegant fabrics, including embossing on the white kimono collars and Genji's white robe, a burnished pattern on the cushion, and burnishing on the black kimono. A lovely scene of courtly life.
