Early Edo Woodblocks - Handsome design from a group of early Edo era woodblocks by 18th and 19th century master artists such as Hokusai, Eizan, Eisen, Toyokuni I, and others. Courtesan with a Floral Kimono - Attractive portrait of an elegantly dressed courtesan taking a stroll. She wears a gray kimono patterned with peonies, chrysanthemums, and cherry blossoms, and ribbons that hang loose, bordered with layers of black and brown brocade. Her geta clogs have three "teeth," identifying her as an oiran or high-ranking courtesan. A blossoming cherry tree frames the scene above a bamboo garden fence. A classic Edo era beauty portrait.
