Kataoka Gado as a Beauty, 1886

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Kataoka Gado as a beauty in the play commonly known as "Kumagai." She tilts her head with a slightly worried expression as she adjusts her hair, dressed in a purple kimono patterned with blossoms and ribbons, worn over a red under robe and tied with a checked obi. Her hair is pulled back into a smooth bun, adorned with many ribbons floral ornaments with tassels. An expressive figure, detailed with fine line work in the hair.
