Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ichimura Uzaemon XIII as Saburo Kagekatsu, 1861

Comments - Intriguing portrait of Ichimura Uzaemon as the rather melancholy daimyo Saburo Kagekatsu, looking down with a sad expression, one hand resting on the hilt of his sword. His face is painted with red stage makeup, and his hair is pulled back into a bushy topknot tied with a white cord. He wears a brocade kamishimo combining several geometric patterns over a fuzzy green kimono and red under robe. A very expressive, moving figure, nicely composed and set off by a deep blue night sky.

Image Size - 14" x 9 5/8" + margins as shown
