Original Edo era Japanese Woodblock Print
The Courtesan Murasaki

Comments - Handsome portrait of the courtesan Murasaki strolling through the Yoshiwara at night. Her outer kimono features chrysanthemums bordered with brocade trim, worn over a red under robe and tied with a checked obi. Her hair is pulled back into two loops, adorned with combs and many floral hairpins. The three "teeth" on her geta clogs identify her as an oiran or high-ranking courtesan. A fence behind her encloses yellow flowering plants beneath a blossoming cherry tree, with lanterns on stands. A classic Edo era beauty portrait.
