Sato Masakiyo and Retainers in a Ship

Comments - Terrific scene of the great general Sato Masakiyo (the real-life Kato Kiymasa) and his retainers in a ship preparing to go into battle. The daimyo stands up the upper deck at top center, gripping a pole arm and staring ahead with a determined expression. His men wear full armor and hold weapons, the samurai in the front of the ship protected by wooden shields and bundles of bamboo. Masakiyo's circular crest appears on the billowing sail and the cloth panels along the side of the boat. A fantastic samurai design, wonderfully detailed.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 14" x 28 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Light vertical lines where backing papers overlap. A couple creases. Please see photos for details.
