New Play Kabuki Portraits - Handsome design from a group of kabuki portraits by Kunisada III depicting actors in new plays at various theaters in Tokyo, including the Meiji, Shintomi, Kabuki, and Ichimura theaters. These bold, chuban format images feature detailed, half-length portraits of kabuki actors, sensitively drawn, with expressive faces capturing a range of emotions. The figures are attractively colored, and set off by solid-colored backgrounds. A few include deluxe publishing techniques such as embossing. A nice opportunity to acquire a fine Meiji era actor portrait.
