Tea Harvesting - Takidaira Jiro is known for his boldly graphic paintings using simplified forms and black outlines. He began illustrating children's books in the 1960s, and his style evolved to incorporate cut paper along with pigment. This is a striking image of a woman during a tea harvest, pausing to fasten back her sleeves, a narrow strip of cloth caught between her teeth and a white cloth wrapped protectively over her hair. Takidaira's work conveyed his love of people and their stories. The first time we've seen a woodblock print by this artist. Pencil signed in kanji within image at lower right.
