No. 11, Etchu, Echigo, and Sado, 1852 - Great harimaze or cutout picture print by Hiroshige featuring three separate designs illustrating various provinces. Harimaze are woodblock prints featuring small scenes designed to be cut apart and pasted into albums or applied to screens. This print includes Etchu, Echigo, and Sado, with a fantastic octopus at upper right, a lovely seascape in a fan shape below, and beauties dancing in Echigo at upper left. The octopus rises above swelling waves, bulging eyes visible above the tentacles. We rarely see this Hiroshige series.
