Geisha Holding a Lantern Kakemono, circa 1820 -1835 by Eizan (1787 - 1867)

Original Eizan (1787 - 1867) Japanese Woodblock Print
Geisha Holding a Lantern Kakemono, circa 1820 -1835

Comments - Beautiful kakemono or vertical diptych of a young geisha carrying a paper lantern on a pole. She wears a blue and gray kimono trimmed in a brown print with a black collar, tied with a black obi. Her hair is piled high atop her head with hairpins and combs, and she looks down as she hurries along, clutching her robe through her checked apron to make walking easier. A beautiful composition with curving lines leading the eye through the image, and a wonderful use of bold areas of black. A lovely example of Eizan's beauty prints.

Artist - Eizan (1787 - 1867)

Image Size - 28 1/2" x 9 3/4" + margin as shown

Condition - This print with good detail as shown. Two separate panels. Horizontal folds. A few wormholes, repaired. Creasing throughout, toning, slight soiling, a few stains. Please see photos for details.
