The Brave Fight of Shimura Seizo at the Great Battle of Aneganami from the Taiheiki, 1868

Comments - Fantastic Yoshitoshi triptych showing the Battle of Aneganami from the famous "Tale of the Taiheiki." Shimura Seizo and his men fight valiantly as wounded and dying men and horses cover the ground. Attackers gallop down the hill at ride on horseback, leaping over a wooden fence and hedges. Smoke billows from fires along the horizon and troops hold their ground on the opposite side of the lake at left. A dramatic portrayal of the violence of the battle, depicted with realism and expression. A moving samurai triptych.
